A truth to carry
Paul's words are both challenging and merciful. Pursue peace, but recognize the phrases "if it be possible" and "as much as lieth in you." Peace is relational; one person cannot create it alone. You can control your honesty, tone, boundaries, repentance, and willingness to forgive. You cannot control another person's choices. Later life may bring decisions about difficult relatives, old friends, or people who repeatedly disregard your well-being. Seek peace without surrendering wisdom. A calm boundary can be more truthful than a resentful yes. Distance can sometimes protect peace better than forced closeness. Ask God to show you what is yours to do, then release what belongs to the other person.
