A truth to carry
There is a particular exhaustion that comes from trying to prove you are no longer the person you were. You watch every reaction. You attempt to make up for lost years in a few weeks. You say yes to too much because you fear disappointing anyone again. Beneath the effort is a fragile bargain: If I perform recovery perfectly, perhaps I will deserve peace. The psalmist does not hide limitation. Flesh and heart fail. Bodies become tired. Emotions lose steadiness. Resolve weakens. This admission is not permission to stop taking responsibility; it is permission to stop pretending human strength is endless. Recovery built only on willpower eventually becomes another burden carried alone. God as the strength of your heart means you can receive what you do not manufacture. Strength may arrive through prayer, but it may also come through sleep, food, medication, counseling, a meeting, a schedule, a ride away from danger, or another person's calm voice on the phone. Divine help is not less divine because it has a human address. Notice the verse also calls God a portion. In a life once organized around more - more relief, more escape, more approval, more control - portion is a healing word. Enough for this day. Enough grace for this decision. Enough courage to tell the truth before the situation grows. Enough humility to say, I am not safe alone right now. Self-forgiveness requires this kind of dependence. If you believe you must redeem yourself through perfect performance, every weakness will feel like a return to the beginning. But if God is your strength, weakness can become a signal rather than a sentence. It can tell you to slow down, reach out, revisit your plan, and receive care. You are not asked to feel powerful today. You are invited to stop making your power the foundation. Let your limits become honest information. Let support carry what pride or fear has tried to hide. The heart that fails is not discarded. It is held, strengthened, and taught to live one portion at a time.
