A truth to carry

Waiting can feel unbearable when you want evidence that the past is no longer in charge. You may be waiting for trust to return, for a legal or financial matter to resolve, for sleep to become easier, or for the mirror to stop showing you only who you were. The temptation is to force movement so that uncertainty will end. Psalm 27 joins waiting with courage. Biblical waiting is not collapsing into passivity. It is remaining faithful when you cannot control the timetable. It may include meetings, treatment, work, restitution, prayer, boundaries, and many ordinary days that seem to produce little visible change. This slow work matters because character is not a performance. A dramatic promise can be made in a minute; trustworthiness is demonstrated through time. You cannot demand that others feel safe because you are sincere today. Courage accepts that their confidence may return through repeated evidence, and perhaps in a different form than before. Waiting also exposes the urge to use shame as fuel. Harshness can create short bursts of effort: I will never be that person again. But fear-driven vows exhaust the heart. God strengthens the heart differently. He builds endurance through grace, truth, community, and choices small enough to repeat. If a setback occurs, courage may mean responding quickly instead of hiding. Tell the truth. Remove danger. Contact support. Review what made you vulnerable. Increase care. The goal is not to protect an image of perfect recovery; it is to protect life. Returning promptly is evidence that new courage exists even when old weakness appears. Notice what waiting is forming in you. Perhaps you listen more carefully. Perhaps you can tolerate another person's disappointment without escaping. Perhaps you make fewer promises and keep more of them. Perhaps you are learning that a quiet day of integrity is not ordinary at all. Wait on the Lord, not on shame's permission to live. Let God strengthen the heart that wants immediate proof. You are not standing still when you practice faithfulness. Roots deepen in ways the surface cannot yet display. The slow work is still work, and courage is growing inside it.
