A truth to carry
Some burdens become familiar because you have carried them so long. You may not know what it feels like to put down responsibility for another person’s choices, a past mistake you cannot undo, or an outcome you cannot force. Carrying may feel safer than releasing because at least carrying gives you something to do. Peter uses the word *casting*. It is active. You are not asked to become detached from what matters. You are invited to place its final weight onto God. That can be difficult precisely because the burden matters. You care about the child, the marriage, the money, the diagnosis, the future, the unanswered message. God does not ask you to stop caring. He asks you to let His care become larger than yours. The reason for the invitation is tender: “for he careth for you.” God is not a distant storage place for unwanted emotions. He is personally concerned with you. He cares about the person holding the burden, not only the burden itself. He sees the tired mind, the interrupted sleep, and the way fear has narrowed your world. Casting care may need to happen more than once. You set it down in the morning, pick it up by lunch, and return with it at night. Do not use that pattern to accuse yourself. Let it become practice. Each time you release the burden, you are reminding your heart who is God and who is not. Praise makes the release more personal. Instead of merely saying, “I cannot handle this,” add, “But You are faithful, Lord.” That sentence does not solve the situation. It places the situation in the hands of Someone who is not overwhelmed by it.
