A truth to carry

There is no need to make your prayer sound impressive for God to draw near. He is near to those who call upon Him in truth. Truth may sound like praise, but it may also sound like, “Lord, I am overwhelmed,” “I do not know what to do,” or “I need help returning to You.” Anxiety can make prayer feel complicated. You may worry that you are asking for the wrong thing, using the wrong words, or not believing strongly enough. This verse makes the invitation simple: call upon Him in truth. God is not looking for a performance. He is responding to the real heart that turns toward Him. Calling in truth also means you do not need to hide the practical needs in your life. You can ask for courage to make an appointment, grace to communicate clearly, wisdom to set a limit, or help to accept support. God’s nearness does not cancel the value of those practical steps. It strengthens you to take them. Praise and truth belong together. You can say, “Lord, I am afraid, and You are near.” You can say, “I do not understand, and You are faithful.” This is not contradiction. It is mature worship. You are refusing to let either fear or faith be hidden from God. The next time you feel your mind pulling away into a spiral, do not wait until you have a perfect prayer. Call His name. He is near to the honest heart.
