A truth to carry

Morning can be complicated when anxiety has been waiting for you. Before your feet touch the floor, your mind may already be reviewing what could go wrong. You may wake tired from thoughts you carried through the night. Lamentations does not pretend mornings are automatically easy. These words were written in a season of deep grief. Yet in the middle of sorrow, the writer remembers mercy. God’s compassions do not fail. They are new every morning. New mercy does not mean you begin with no history, no consequences, and no concerns. It means that you do not begin this day alone with yesterday’s emotional weight. God meets you with fresh compassion. Anxiety can make you believe that because a concern was heavy yesterday, it must own today as well. But today has its own mercy. It may look like a fresh perspective, renewed strength, a needed conversation, a helpful appointment, or simply the capacity to begin again. You do not have to manufacture that mercy. You receive it. Praise in the morning can be very simple: “Great is Thy faithfulness.” You do not have to feel strong enough to sing it loudly. Let it become a small statement of orientation. Before the news, the schedule, and the what-ifs take over, remember that God’s faithfulness arrived before your fear did. Today may still have difficulty in it. But it also has compassion that was not exhausted by yesterday. Begin there.
