A truth to carry
Forgetfulness is one of anxiety’s quiet habits. It remembers the frightening possibility but forgets the help that has already come. It remembers the worst conversation but overlooks the person who showed kindness. It remembers the time you felt overwhelmed and forgets the many moments when you found your way through. David speaks to his own soul: “Bless the LORD.” He does not wait for the soul to feel naturally enthusiastic. He calls it back to memory. He reminds himself not to forget God’s benefits. This is not denial; it is spiritual accuracy. What benefits has God given you? Perhaps you have received forgiveness, provision, endurance, a friend, a needed warning, a new beginning, or a day that was gentler than you expected. Some benefits are dramatic. Many are quiet. The quiet ones still count. A stable home, a cup of water, a moment of rest, a truthful insight, or the ability to ask for help may all be signs of grace. Praise strengthens memory. It gives you a record that fear cannot easily erase. When you write down God’s faithfulness, you are not creating proof that life will never be difficult. You are building a witness that God has met you before and is meeting you now. Speak kindly to your own soul today. It has been carrying a lot. Invite it to remember the goodness that is still part of your story. The Lord has not been absent simply because anxiety has been loud.
