A truth to carry
A lamp in the ancient world did not flood a distant landscape with light. It revealed the ground close enough for the next steps. That image can feel both limiting and merciful. We often want a spotlight on the entire future. God often offers a lamp for today. Illness makes long-range planning difficult. You may hesitate to commit because you do not know how your body will feel. That uncertainty can turn every decision into a demand for information you cannot have. Scripture invites a gentler rhythm: receive the light that is available, then walk within it. Today's light may be a verse reminding you that you are loved. It may be a clear instruction from your care team, a boundary your body has been asking for, or permission to postpone a nonessential decision. Sometimes the next step is movement; sometimes it is rest. A lamp does not judge the pace of the traveler. It simply keeps company with the feet that are willing to follow. You are not failing because you cannot see six months ahead. Even healthy lives are lived one present moment at a time; illness merely makes that truth impossible to ignore. Let God's Word narrow the horizon until it becomes bearable. Ask, "What is faithful now?" rather than "How will I manage everything?" Purpose can grow inside a single well-chosen step. Peace can enter when you stop demanding that today's lamp explain tomorrow's terrain. The path is not dark because God has abandoned you. It may simply be illuminated in the measure needed for this part of the journey.
