A truth to carry
Rest can become complicated when your body requires more of it than your culture respects. You may hear an accusing voice while lying down: You should be doing more. Other people manage. You are disappointing someone. The body asks for stillness while shame keeps pacing inside the mind. Jesus speaks to people who labor and carry heavy loads. His first word is not "try." It is "come." Rest begins in relationship, not in finally completing enough work to deserve it. Christ does not invite only the efficiently exhausted. He welcomes those whose burden has become too heavy. The rest He gives may include sleep, but it is deeper than sleep. It is relief from the belief that your worth rises and falls with your output. You remain loved while plans wait, dishes sit, messages go unanswered, and someone else takes the task. Your body's need is not a moral defect. Rest is also part of wise stewardship. Following medical advice, pacing activity, or canceling before symptoms worsen can be faithful choices. There may be grief in them. You are allowed to miss what you cannot do while still honoring what your body is communicating. Jesus does not stand over your rest with a stopwatch. He meets you within it. Receive only the rest available today. Maybe sleep will not come, pain will not ease, or your mind will remain active. You can still rest from proving, explaining, and criticizing yourself. Let the soul loosen even if the body remains uncomfortable. Come as you are, heavy load included. The One who receives you is gentle, and His welcome does not depend on how productive you will be afterward.
