A truth to carry
Pain can shrink attention until the ache feels like the closest thing in the room. It is difficult to sense anything beyond what the nerves are reporting. Even prayer can feel distant when the body is loud. Psalm 34 does not tell the brokenhearted to climb toward God. It says the Lord is near. Nearness is His movement before it is your experience. You may not feel a holy warmth or sudden calm. God's presence is not made true by your ability to detect it. He is close because He has chosen closeness as His posture toward the wounded. That means you can stop grading the quality of your devotional time. If you read the same line three times because concentration is difficult, God has not left. If your prayer is interrupted by a spasm, brain fog, or exhaustion, you have not failed to reach Him. He is already present in the interruption. Sometimes His nearness arrives through ordinary means: a nurse who listens, a friend who does not hurry, a meal prepared, a pet resting beside you, or a moment when medication brings relief. These are not lesser forms of grace. They are reminders that divine care often takes on the texture of daily life. Allow yourself to receive what is offered without requiring it to fix everything. The ache may still be near, but it is not alone with you. Christ shares the room. Let that truth make a little space around the pain - enough space to breathe, to be cared for, and perhaps to notice one quiet mercy beside it.
