A truth to carry
Purpose is often pictured as something large: a career, platform, ministry, or visible accomplishment. When illness narrows your radius, purpose can seem to disappear with the miles you no longer travel or the work you can no longer sustain. Ephesians begins somewhere quieter. You are God's workmanship. Before you do a good work, you are a work held in His hands. Purpose grows from what He is making, not from frantic attempts to prove that your life still counts. The good works prepared for you will fit the actual path you are walking. They may include encouraging someone through a message, praying for a name, listening without fixing, making something at a slower pace, sharing hard-won wisdom, or treating your own body with compassion. Receiving care can also serve purpose by allowing another person's gifts to become useful. Do not dismiss the small radius. A lamp changes the room it is in. A gentle word can alter the direction of a day. The patience you practice with yourself may change how your family understands weakness. Purpose is not measured only by audience size or physical effort. There may also be days when survival is the assignment. Eating, resting, following treatment, and staying connected are not obstacles to purpose; they can be the good work of stewardship. God does not compare today's walk with yesterday's stride. He meets you on this path. Ask not, "What impressive thing can I still accomplish?" but, "What loving thing is within reach?" Then let enough be enough.
