A truth to carry
A diagnosis can be useful. It may explain symptoms, open treatment options, and connect you with people who understand. But a diagnosis can also become the first fact others see. Conversations begin with health updates, forms reduce a life to boxes, and you may wonder whether the person you were has disappeared behind medical language. God's language is more personal: "I have called thee by thy name." Before you are a patient, case, condition, or collection of limitations, you are someone God created, formed, redeemed, and claims with love. Your name carries a history larger than illness. This does not require separating yourself from the body. Your body is part of your lived story, worthy of care rather than contempt. Yet no symptom has the authority to give the final definition. You are still a friend, learner, worshiper, neighbor, creator, listener, and beloved child of God - even when some roles must be expressed differently. Notice the phrase "thou art mine." Belonging comes before achievement. On a high-capacity day, you belong. On a day spent in bed, you belong. When you are hopeful, angry, focused, foggy, independent, or receiving help, you remain His. Practice using language that keeps the person visible. Instead of saying, "I am my illness," try, "I am living with this condition." The distinction is not denial; it is proportion. Illness may occupy much of the page, but it does not become the author. God calls you by name, and His voice reaches deeper than any label written in a chart.
